OpSec (Operational Security)
Set of practices protecting private information — critical for crypto users.
OpSec (Operational Security) in crypto context means a set of habits and practices protecting your identity, assets and information from potential attackers.
Basic crypto OpSec rules:
•Don't talk about the size of your holdings publicly (not even to friends)
•Different email addresses for different exchanges
•Dedicated browser (or profile) only for crypto — no other sites
•VPN always on when using crypto sites
•Never use public WiFi for crypto transactions
•Hardware 2FA (YubiKey) on exchanges
•Never say where you physically store your seed phrase
Social engineering threats:
•"Crypto giveaway" scams
•Fake "support" message from Binance
•Romance scams — person who "loves" you and advises investment
•Insider trading "tips" requiring your private key
$5 wrench attack: Attacker physically threatens victim to surrender access — cold storage at secret location and multisig are protection.
