Aptos and Sui — Move Blockchain
New Layer-1 blockchains based on Move language, former Diem (Facebook) team.
Aptos and Sui are new Layer-1 blockchains developed by the former Meta (Facebook) team that worked on the Diem (Libra) project — using the Move programming language.
Background:
•2019: Meta (Facebook) announced Libra stablecoin
•2022: Regulatory pressure → Diem shut down
•Team scattered → two factions:
- Aptos Labs (Avery Ching, Mo Shaikh)
- Mysten Labs → Sui (Evan Cheng, Sam Blackshear)
Move programming language:
•Developed for Diem
•Designed for digital asset security
•Resources — tokens cannot be duplicated or accidentally destroyed
•Formal code verification
Aptos:
•Mainnet: October 2022
•APT token
•Block-STM parallel transaction execution
•~160,000 TPS in theory
•Ecosystem: Liquidswap, Thala, PancakeSwap on Aptos
Sui:
•Mainnet: May 2023
•SUI token
•Object-centric model (each asset = "object")
•Mysten Labs VC: $300M+ in funding
•Zklogin — login with Google/Facebook, creates wallet
•Ecosystem: Cetus (DEX), Navi Protocol (lending)
Criticisms:
•High VC allocation → constant sell pressure
•Low decentralization in early phase
