Period when altcoins outperform Bitcoin — usually late in the bull cycle.
Alt season is a period in the crypto market cycle when altcoins massively outperform Bitcoin in price growth.
Where it appears in the cycle: 1. Bitcoin leads growth (institutions, ETFs, halving effect) 2. BTC dominance rises (BTC.D) 3. Profit rotates from BTC to large-cap altcoins (ETH, SOL, BNB) 4. Profit rotates to mid and small-cap altcoins 5. Peak alt season — everything rises, including meme coins 6. Crash — altcoins fall 70–95%
BTC.D (Bitcoin Dominance):
•Index showing % of BTC market cap vs entire crypto market
•BTC.D falls → alt season begins
•BTC.D rises → capital goes to BTC, altcoins lag
