Total transaction value in a period — confirms strength of price moves.
Volume is the total value or quantity of an asset traded in a given time period (hour, day, week).
Why volume matters:
•High volume + rising price = strong bullish signal (real buyers)
•High volume + falling price = strong bearish signal (panic selling)
•Price rise on low volume = weak confirmation, potential fakeout
•Price fall on low volume = weak selling, potential bottom
Volume on chart:
•Bar chart below price chart
•Green = price rose in that period
•Red = price fell
Pitfalls:
•Wash trading — fake volume manipulated by exchanges/projects
•CoinGecko "reported" vs "trusted" volume
•DEX volume is on-chain, transparent — harder to manipulate
