Halving
The halving of Bitcoin mining rewards — happens every 4 years.
The Bitcoin halving is an event that occurs every 210,000 blocks (approximately every 4 years) when the block mining reward is cut in half. This is built into the Bitcoin protocol as an inflation control mechanism.
Halving history:
•2012: 50 BTC → 25 BTC
•2016: 25 BTC → 12.5 BTC
•2020: 12.5 BTC → 6.25 BTC
•April 2024: 6.25 BTC → 3.125 BTC
Halving reduces the rate at which new Bitcoin enters circulation, which — with the same or greater demand — has historically led to price increases. The last Bitcoin will be mined around the year 2140.
