From Web1 to Web3
Web1: static reading. Web2: interactive, but Google and Facebook own your data. Web3: you own your data and assets through blockchain.
MetaMask: Web3 identity
MetaMask is a non-custodial wallet giving you a Web3 identity. Instead of logging in with email (Web2), you "connect wallet" (Web3). One address, all dApps.
- Install MetaMask in Chrome/Firefox
- Create wallet → save seed phrase offline
- Add Ethereum and L2 networks
- Buy some ETH for gas fees
dApps ecosystem
- Uniswap — swap tokens, no KYC
- Aave — borrow crypto without a bank
- OpenSea — NFT marketplace
- Snapshot — DAO voting
ENS: Web3 username
Ethereum Name Service maps "name.eth" to a 0x address. Instead of a long hex address, send to "name.eth".
Web3 risks
- Phishing sites imitating dApps — always check URL
- Malicious approve permissions — check what you are approving
- Seed phrase is the single point of failure — keep it offline
